Food Tips

Everywhere you turn these days it's "What shouldn't I eat?"
At school we had a guest come and have a little conversation with the class last week and I felt it was very inspirational and he made some very valid points. One example he gave talked about oatmeal and how so many people eat oatmeal for breakfast because it's dubbed as healthy in our culture. BUT if you don't like oatmeal don't eat it for breakfast!! If you are not eating things you like then you're never going to be happy! Food = happiness. It fuels the body.
My suggestion is educate yourself about the things you are putting into your body. The majority of our food is now artificially produced and it's all about money, not health. On this page I am going to give some suggestions for things to eat or not eat. I know some things will come out bias, but take it as you will. That is why they are suggestions after all.

>Did you know Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys?
When it  killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter.

>Do you know how High Fructose Corn Syrup is made?
Any product where one must wear heavy duty gloves and/or goggles to keep their eyes and skin from burning just to produce it, shouldn't be in our food, let alone our bodies, in my opinion.

>ALWAYS CHECK INGREDIENTS OVER LABELS!
Don't just read the labels of your food, read the ingredients! If there is less than a specific amount of something in certain products, the company doesn't always have to state it in the label, but they will always have to put it in the ingredients. One example of this is trans-fats. Look for anything that says hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated in the ingredients and it means there is trans fat despite the nutrition label.

>I won't tell you to eat organic, but it is something that I strongly believe in.
Eating fresh fruits and vegetables are the key here, over organic or non, but if you educate yourself at all about the way our food is being conventionally produced please look into what foods you should to eating organically over others. For example many fruits, like strawberries with open pores hold pesticides much more than say a grape that has a thick solid layer of skin all around it. Always rinse your fruit and vegetables before consuming!
As far as milk, think about all the things cows are typically pumped full of just to keep 'healthy': growth hormones, antibiotics, synthetic hormones. Do you think this makes for a happy cow? What about the way it is being treated and raised? The way our animals are treated and the products pumped into these animals are directly related to the end product we receive. Plus everything that cow has ingested, from dirt + corn to hormones and antibiotics you are now putting it all into your own body. If you are a hunter or have ever eaten real game you can taste and feel the difference the moment you put it in your mouth.
